James Allen, M.D.

Dr. James Allen is one of the most experienced ophthalmologists in the Twin Cities. He is the President of St. Paul Eye Clinic and a member of the Executive Committee of Midwest Surgery Center.
Dr. Allen grew up in Rochester, New York, and graduated from Williams College with a degree in Physics. He obtained his medical degree from University of Oregon and then began a residency in Surgery at Stanford University before finishing a residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Rochester, New York. He then completed the prestigious cornea fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia.
He is a fellowship-trained specialist in cornea and external disease, with interests in cataract, refractive surgery and cornea transplants. He provides comprehensive ophthalmic care, including complete eye exams and contact lenses. He operates at Midwest Surgery Center, Phillips Eye Institute, St. Paul Surgery Center and United and Children s Hospitals.
Dr. Allen is a VISX-certified refractive surgeon, and has performed several thousand refractive procedures. He offers CustomVue Wavefront LASIK, PRK, and PTK.

Dr. Allen and his wife have three children. They enjoy skiing, traveling, hiking, tennis, and golf.
